Ecovolunteer nature travel: help in a wildlife rescue station in Kyrgyzstan. In 2002 the first and only wildlife rehabilitation centre in Central Asia was set up by the non-governmental organisation NABU in the mountain ranges surrounding the famous Issyk-Kul lake in Kyrgyzstan. Four confiscated and injured snow leopards found a permanent home here as well as many different birds of prey speciesī. A special wildlife protection unit of the government successfully cracks down on the illegal trade of wild species in the country, especially snow leopards, and the centre is meant to provide a home for the animals that will have to remain in captivity as well as prepare healthy animals for release back into the wild. nabu, naturschutzbund, snow leopards, ounce, snowleopards, birga dexel, felids, felidae, panthera, issyk-kul biosphere reserve, kyrgyzstan, nature travel, ecotourism
