Common dolphins in Italy, Delphinus delphis, Delphis - Mediterranean dolphin conservation
You are offered the opportunity for participation in the collection and analysis of data on the distribution, the ecology, the behaviour and the acoustic of cetaceans. Great attention is given to the relic population unit of endangered short-beaked common dolphins, but several other species of cetaceans also live in the research area. Protection of the cetacean fauna in this area is needed from at least some obvious threats such as harassment by recreational vessels and uncontrolled fishing. However, no specific measures have been still adopted that would directly benefit cetaceans' conservation in any part of the area. Join us and learn about the whales and dolphins commonly seen in the area and how to identify them, assist in the field in counting the animals, recording their behaviour, determining geographical positions and taking photographs from our boat. Hopefully you work will contribute to conservation measures for these threatened wildlife.
