Eurasian griffon vultures in Croatia - Gyps fulvus
You may observe the majestic Griffon vultures on a regular basis from several purpose-built posts. One of these posts is located near a feeding place and another near a nesting ground. Thus you follow the Eurasian griffons during their daily activities and also observe their nests during the nesting season. Vulture populations worldwide are in decline, and in Europe the Griffon vultures have been declining for centuries. They have been disappearing all over Europe for many reasons: lack of food (disappearance of traditional sheep-farming), hunting, poisoning (poisoned bait and use of pesticides) and others, all of these are an outcome of human influence. Only recently the dramatic decline has been stopped, but as the underlying problems have not been solved the long-term survival of the species is still uncertain. In Croatia these problems have been partially countered by additional feeding but unfortunately also here the problems still remain. So please join researchers and conservationists in their effort with studying and protecting the endangered Griffon Vultures, and spent time monitoring these impressive birds from short distance within the protected reserve area.
