Ecovolunteer nature travel: help in dolphin research in Brazil. You will have the opportunity to encounter in Brazil the special coastal dolphin species Tucuxi, (pronounced tookooshee) - a small and cute ‘Flipper’ type of dolphin. The Tucuxi is the only dolphin living in Sepetiba Bay near Rio de Janeiro city, where we have studied these dolphins since 1993. It can be found here all year around, living in groups of 10 to 200. The project region is called Green Coast, due to the green colour of the sea, and the forests on the island and alongside the coast. It’s really an unforgettable experience to see dozens of dolphins jumping in such a beautiful environment. In joining this Sotalia Project (name derived from the scientific name of the species, Sotalia fluviatilis) you contribute to a better knowledge of social, behaviour and ecological aspects of this amazing species, as well as helping us to write, in the future, a conservationist plan for this species in this habitat. The Laboratory of Cetaceans Bioacoustics of the Environmental Sciences Department - Forest Institute of Rural Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRuralRJ) initiated and operates this project. projeto sotalia, tucuxi dolphins, cetacean, sotalia fluviatilis, brasil, brazil, nature travel, ecotourism
